I thought Id get in some of my favorite non horror movies before the Halloween season starts up and im bothering everyone with my non stop horror movie rants.
Where were you in 62?
American Graffiti might just be one of my all time favorite movies ( if you look at my dvd you can tell )
its well written, It has great acting and night life..people used to do things all night long
theres even this scene with some old people watching Toad throw up and all I could think to myself was..everyone used to stay up all night long..no one went to bed ..they had fun.
I remember as a kid always looking at the case and thinking..maybe and then putting it back..I had heard it was a musical and it was always in the musical section and then one day after I had grown up and gotten married I decided just to get it over with and watch it ..I was amazed..it wasn't a musical at all but a comedy drama set in 1962 and following the night of a group of kids as they all had adventures...and tried to decide what to do with the rest of there lives.
After the movie was over I re watched it and decided to make my husband watch it when he got home from work..he was scared but in the end he loved it.
The movie stars Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Cindy Williams ( Shirley From Laverne and Shirley ) Candy Clark, Wolfman Jack, Bo Hopkins, Harrison Ford, and my favorite of all Charles Martin Smith his character Toad has some of the best lines in the whole movie.
"Let me have a Three Musketeers, and a ball point pen, and one of those combs there, a pint of Old Harper, a couple of flash light batteries and some beef jerky. "
This is the best teen movie ever its a classic its not like all the ones we have today and the ones they made when I was in high school.
Forget Star wars I think this is the best movie George Lucas has ever done!
More American Graffiti ( yes that's its name )
We all know that sequels are never as good as the first movie..but when a movie is really good the audience screams for more! and the director makes more because he loves the money he made.
For a sequel I will say that this isn't horrible its atleast watchable but don't walk outside to get a beer from the outside fridge because you will miss things and then bother everyone by asking them what happened why isn't everything in split screen..and what year is it now past or present? ( that's what my dad did )
We don't get a return of the character Curtis ( Richard Dreyfuss ) because apparently he is in Canada being a writer or something but we get most of the cast back
Steve and Laurie ( Ron Howard and Cindy Williams ) are now married and fighting with twins..because we didn't see that happening..he probably should have kept his mouth shut in the first one ..when he said he wanted to break up..and go with other people ( since he wasn't serious ) women hold on to everything forever.
We get the return of the oh so sexy greaser bad ass John Milner who is now racing the same as usual
he isn't as good looking as he was in the first one but..he is still cool sort of.
We get the unfortunate return of Carol ( Mackenzie Phillips ) who I think might be playing 2 people but I never have figured it out.
and my 2 favorite returns
Debbie (Candy Clark ) who is now a stripper hippie ..who is dating a real loser she gets in the van with a hippie band and is probably never heard from again..but once again im not surprised we learned in the first one that she would just get into anyones car all you had to say was you look like Connie Stevens and in the car she went.. She needed to be sat down and shown a psa about not talking to strangers because that's how you wind up chopped into little bits and buried in the woods...she is pretty dumb but I think her character is my second favorite.
The best return is of Toad ( Charles Martin Smith )
at the end of the last one we learn that he died in Vietnam and that left me with a sad feeling
well ........SPOILER ALERT - in this we learn that he hates Vietnam and is trying to leave and in the end he just fakes his death and runs off..thats the best part of this movie..Toads not dead!!! YAY!
its not bad but its kind of hard to follow..its in spilt screen a lot of the time
the first one well always be better :)
So do yourself a favor pick up American Graffiti and a box of popcorn and some soda and just relax with a good movie with weekend :) and then tell me all about it.
